Don’t worry. It doesn’t help

Being Anxious- Moment of Inspiration

There are at least two songs that were very popular at one time that address our subject today.   Bob Marley sang a song called Three Little Birds with the words  “Don’t worry a-bout a thing, ’cause ev-ry little thing gonna be all right”.    Later Bobby McFerrin  released a song  “Don’t worry, Be Happy” .  Some of McFerrin’s lyrics included the following:

Don’t worry be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don’t worry, be happy……

Ain’t got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don’t worry, be happy

While both songs address the subject of anxiety appropriately, in this Moment of Inspiration we turn to God’s Word to listen to what the Bible says about the subject.   Our title is Being Anxious and we join Clinton Williams in Matthew 6:25-34.

We hope you are enjoying these lessons and that you will share them with your friends and family.

Matthew 6:25-34

 The Cure for Anxiety

25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink ; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing ?

26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather  into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life ?

28 “And why are you worried about clothing ? Observe how the lilies of the field grow ; they do not toil nor do they spin,

29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.

30 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith !

31 “Do not worry then, saying,’What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’

32 “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things ; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

33″But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

34″So do not worry about tomorrow ; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

God Will Take Care of Us

Where to Now?  What Now?

  1. Bro. Clinton, in this Moment of Inspiration and in another you mention how God will take care of us through presentation. Would you please elaborate on what you mean by this? Thanks

  2. Absolutely!
What it means is that sometimes God will allow our faith to tried, but when we are delivered from our trial it is a reflection on him and we should treat it as such. There is another video that discusses Psalm 142 and David says that is exactly what he will do when God delivers him in verse 7. He says, “bring my soul out of prison that I may praise thy name”. In this scenario God could taking care of David through presentation so that he will receive glory and honor. Also refer to 1 Peter 1:3-9 I will be discussing that soon.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Brother……You spoke it so well. From the moment we wake up to see another day, God has and will take care of us. If we put our trust in Him, our worries will be few. I like to live by this: If I worry, I didn’t pray; If I pray, I won’t have to worry. Thank you for this inspiration.
