Beltway Church member served as usher at Pres. John Kennedy funeral 50 years ago

Over the last few days the nation and world observed the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. A member of the congregation took part in the funeral services for the slain President.

Clarence Holmes served as one of 8 ushers representing the four branches of the military at President Kennedy’s funeral mass. The funeral took place at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, DC on November 25,1963.

At the time Holmes was a sergeant in the Air Force stationed at Bolling Air Force Base. He talked about it yesterday which was exactly 50 years to the day later.

  1. Excellent interview, I enjoyed hearing Bro. Holmes account of President Kennedy funeral service. The president was very supportive of the civil rights movement and he meant a lot to African Americans in my home state of Mississippi. Bro. Holmes is a true witnessed to history, I am very proud of his service. Thanks for sharing this with us.
