Daily Bread #10
“Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect” (Rom 12:2 NET).
Yesterday’s lesson was about being filled (to be saturated) with the Holy Spirit at the deepest level of our existence. For this to be a reality in our lives we must watch our walk, exercise good wisdom, and develop an understanding or knowing what is God’s will for my life. Then we must turn on the kind of music that will embalm us at the deepest level. The songs are Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. The place where this is done is the heart, “…singing and making melody in your heart…,” and the person to whom the praise is given is the Lord. “…in your hearts to the Lord” (Eph. 5:19).
This morning, please take a gaze at Paul’s admonition to believers in Romans 12:2. In verse 2 we have a contrasting statement. The first part is a negative, “Do not be conformed to this present world.” But the negative statement makes the positive “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” even clearer. Christians must not adapt themselves to the behavior of the world. My life, your life, our lives must not be ordered according to the deceiving ways of the world. Understand that Paul’s usage of the word “world” has reference today’s ideologies that are anti God.
It speaks also of the spiritual wicked forces that control the present system. The apostle John describes it this way, “One of the beast’s heads appeared to have been killed, but the lethal wound had been healed. And the whole world followed the beast in amazement” (Rev 12:3 NET). This is how one is conformed to the world; he follows the leaders of this dark world.
But, as we turn our backs on being conformed to this world, we must now focus our attention on being transformed at the deepest level, by the renewing of our minds. What does a renewed mind looks like? A renewed mind is a person who submits himself to the ways of God. A renewed mind allows the teachings of God to transform him from inside out. A renewed mind will always do the following: “… whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things (Phi 4:8 NET).
We get transformed at the deepest level when we:
- Place ourselves on the altar of God.
- We do this for a reason, the mercies of God (Read all of Ps. 136 from the NKJ version).
- Be mindful that our sacrifice is better than OT sacrifices; we offer a living sacrifice.
- To overcome the lies and deceptions of the devil, I must not allow him to control me.
- Philippians 4:8 teaches me how to be renewed at the deepest level – think a certain way.
- If I find myself not responding to the call of God in my life the way I should, then Satan is breaking me down at the deepest level.
